Cooling Tower Replacement at Tata Communications, BKC, Mumbai

Cooling Tower Replacement at Tata Communications, BKC, Mumbai

Customised Crossflow Cooling Tower with Multi EC Fan Technology

Project Overview

Shinryo Suvidha Engineers India Pvt. Ltd., a trusted HVACR solutions provider with over four decades of experience, partnered with Advance Cooling Towers for a cooling tower modernisation project at Tata Communications, BKC, Mumbai, a key location for global data centre infrastructure.

The project involved replacing an existing competitor-supplied crossflow cooling tower with a customised Crossflow Cooling Tower featuring an advanced Multi EC Fan configuration. The objective was to enhance cooling performance and energy efficiency while retaining the existing installation footprint.

The Challenge

Replacing an existing cooling tower presents several engineering challenges, particularly when the new equipment must fit within the available space without major modifications to the existing installation.

For this project, the key requirements were to:

  • Replace the existing competitor cooling tower while maintaining the original footprint.
  • Meet the required cooling capacity and water flow rate.
  • Introduce an energy-conscious fan solution to improve operational efficiency.

Support reliable, continuous operation for a critical infrastructure application.

Our Engineered Solution

Advance Cooling Towers designed and successfully installed a customised Crossflow Cooling Tower with a Multi EC Fan arrangement, replacing the conventional axial fan configuration with electronically controlled EC fans.

The replacement unit was engineered to match the footprint of the previously installed cooling tower, enabling an effective modernisation solution within the existing installation area.

The Multi EC Fan configuration offers greater flexibility in fan operation and the potential to optimise power consumption according to cooling demand. The solution combines customised engineering with modern fan technology to support reliable cooling and improved operating efficiency.

Technical Specifications

  • Cooling Tower Type: Crossflow Cooling Tower
  • Fan Technology: Multi EC Fans
  • Configuration: Single-cell, inline arrangement
  • Water Flow Rate: 523 CMH
  • Total Cooling Capacity: 2,902,737 kcal/hr

Installation Footprint: Matched to the existing cooling tower

Key Benefits

  • Energy-Efficient CoolingThe Multi EC Fan arrangement supports optimised fan operation and offers the potential for power savings, depending on the operating conditions and control strategy.Enhanced Operational ReliabilityThe EC fan configuration reduces dependence on conventional mechanical drive components, helping minimise certain mechanical failure risks and simplifying maintenance.Designed for 24×7 OperationThe EC fans are suitable for continuous-duty applications, supporting the operational requirements of critical cooling infrastructure.

    Customised Footprint Matching

The new cooling tower was designed to match the footprint of the existing unit, addressing space constraints and avoiding the need for a larger installation area.

    Reliable Cooling Performance

With a water flow rate of 523 CMH and a total cooling capacity of 2,902,737 kcal/hr, the upgraded system was designed to meet the specified cooling requirements of the application.

Project Outcome

The successful replacement demonstrates Advance Cooling Towers’ capability to deliver customised cooling tower retrofit solutions that combine application-specific engineering with modern fan technology.

By matching the existing footprint and incorporating Multi EC Fans, the project addressed the installation constraints while supporting the objectives of improved cooling performance, energy efficiency and operational reliability.

This installation at Tata Communications, BKC, Mumbai, highlights our commitment to developing practical, energy-conscious cooling solutions for demanding HVACR and critical infrastructure applications.
